12.5 - Basic Model and General Approach

As Chapter 12 shows, the General Basic Model can be regarded as equivalent to the General Approach 12.2.2.
For this to be exactly the case, both equations must be equivalent to each other.

General approach: Nziv = A · Fph · Fk · FLiz
General basic model: NzexGal = A · Fph · Fgae · FLiz

It must then apply:

Nziv = NzexGal
A · Fph · Fk · FLiz = A · Fph · Fgae · FLiz

As a result:

12.5.1 Equation Fk = Fgae

The probability Fgae for the Earth similarity must be of the same order of magnitude as the observation probabilities Fk, so that the models are equivalent.
